Welcome to Tsavo East National Park. With over 11,000 km², this park can be called the largest national park in Kenya.

Until May 1948, Tsavo East formed one large park with Tsavo West National Park. Now they are two different parks that are only separated by the A109 and a railroad. Together with adjacent protective areas, they form the Tsavo Conservation Area.

Have you ever seen a red elephant? You can find them here in Tsavo East. Of course they are not really red. Because of the red sand in which they walk and roll, they get a layer of red dust on their skin. The image of  dust-red elephants rolling and spraying each other with water at the Galana River is a unique and new experience within the Kenyan wildlife group.

The park is also home to most of the bigger mammals like the buffalo, impala, hyena, lion, leopard, hippo, crocodile, waterbuck and lots of bird life.

Despite the fact that the park is so large, most animals can be discovered within a compact area. This is due to the northern area of the park being closed to the general public for safety reasons.

Located between Mombasa and Nairobi, Tsavo East National park can be a nice stop between these two destinations.
