Whoever talks about Mombasa usually thinks of both "big city" and "beach" in one and the same sentence.

In this second largest city of Kenya you can experience a completely different atmosphere as you can find in the rest of Kenya. With a mix of Portuguese, Arabic and Swahili influences you can see and feel the characteristics of a real cosmopolitan city.

One of the most outstandig en well preserved buildings is Fort Jesus. Built by the Portugese during their colonisation to protect the old port of Mombasa, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is definitely worth a visit.

If you are more a fan of nature, you can stretch your legs in Haller Park. An afternoon trip to the park can be quite rewarding due to the diversity of attractions it offers. The Park consists of a Game Sanctuary, Reptile Park, a small demonstration Fish Farm area, Palm Garden, Crocodile Pens and a Giraffe viewing platform.

If you are looking for a nice souvenir and you want to have a taste of the local delicacies, than have a stroll around one of the local markets.

And then ofcourse last but definitely not least: the pearly white beaches. Relaxing on the beach with the sand between your toes, having a refreshing swim in the Indian ocean, watching camels pass by, sipping from a cooling drink,....You will feel like you are in paradise. If you have the chance, try to experience  a ride home in a tuktuk.

When in Kenya, take the opportunity to visit this bustling city with all its versatility.

Since june 2017 it is possible to take the train straight from Nairobi to Mombasa. This 6 hour journey will let you enjoy the nice scenery on the way. Passing by both Tsavo National Parks, there is a big chance you might spot some elephants, zebras and other wildlife.
