Maasai Mara is a nature reserve that is located in the South West of Kenya. Named after the Maasai tribe who lives there, this reserve is one of the most popular destinations in Kenya. This is due to the wideness of the area and the variety of wildlife that can be discovered.

Maasai Mara borders on Tanzania, where the area continues under the name Serengeti National Park. Every year the very impressive “Great Migration” of the about 1,5 million wildebeest, zebras and some species of antelopes from and to Tanzania occurs. During the rainy season, the wildebeest and zebras are in Serengeti National Park. When it gets drier, they gradually move north to Kenya again in large groups. At the end of the dry season, they arrive in Maasai Mara. When the rainy season starts again, they head south back to Tanzania. This big move, happening  between july and october, is an unforgettable image to experience.

But no worries, Maasai Mara will definitely blow your mind all year round!

The 1700 km² landscape of Maasai Mara consists mainly of big grass areas with here and there acacia trees and river forests.

With the lions, cheetahs, leopards, warthogs, heartebeests, giraffes, buffalos, hippos, ostriches, different bird species, gazelles, ... that you can find there, you will certainly never be disappointed after a visit to this beautiful location.

If you are interested in how the Maasai people live there, it is possible to go and visit one of their villages. They will be very happy to let you have a look inside their houses and explain to you how they live and provide for themselves.

Since Maasai Mara is so wide-reaching, it is best to provide at least three days to visit this reserve.

Because of the large amount of things to see, it is best to take your time to enjoy all of it.
